Raising London Circuit May update
Light Rail to Woden will create a more connected, sustainable, and vibrant city.
Activities in May
This month the southbound traffic lanes on Commonwealth Avenue will switch over to the new temporary eastern side track. Activities in preparation for and implementation of side track traffic switch include:
- Partial closure of Commonwealth Avenue southbound only (between Parkes Way and Vernon Circle) for up to six nights between 6pm Monday 13 May 2024 and 7am Sunday 19 May 2024.
- Full closure of Commonwealth Avenue southbound only on Sunday 19 May 2024 from 6pm. All southbound traffic will be diverted during this time, (see map for diversion routes).
- The new traffic route on the side track will be opened at 7am on Monday 20 May 2024. This will see southbound traffic move across to the new eastern side track on Commonwealth Ave.
-
A new shared path will open at the same time for active travellers along the new side track, improving active travel connections in the area during the next phase of the project.
If work is unable to be completed in this time due to wet weather or other circumstances, it will take place on Monday 20 May and Sunday 26 May for partial closure of Commonwealth Avenue southbound only and all southbound lanes will be closed from 6pm Sunday 26 May reopening 7am Monday 27 May. In the unlikely event work could not proceed on this day either, the closure and transition to the new side track will occur on the night of Sunday 2 June to Monday 3 June.
Traffic detours in place from 6pm Sunday 19 May until 7am Monday 20 May
